DMCH Pediatric Unit
"A project to alleviate the suffering of children."
A field report from Rishin, a SpaandanB representative:
I was never a fan of hospitals. The narrow hallways, the medicinal smell, the knowledge that behind each door there was likely to be another sickly or dying person. When I got involved with the Dhaka Medical College Burn and Pediactric Units, I knew I was going to have to suck it up and be strong. But when I arrived at the site, what I saw drove all my fears and hesitations from my mind. more...

Project History
Each year, many children get admitted into the Pediatric Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for various congenital anomalies. Simple surgery can save these children from years of suffering and can rekindle the hope for a normal life. Unfortunately, due to the socio-economic situations, parents of these children are unable to afford the cost for even simple dressing or suture materials.
SpaandanB, while running its project with DMCH Burn Unit, came to know about the destitute plight of these little patients. With the support from generous donors, SpaandanB started to co-sponsor the Pediatric Unit. The main objectives of this project are to:
- To help financially distressed children with congenital anomalies by covering the expenses for surgical materials.
- To help improve the infrastructure of DMCH Pediatric Unit in limited scope.
