Gaibandha district (population 2.5 million) is one of the poorest districts in the northern area of Bangladesh. Approximately 125,000 people are suffering from diabetes and about 50% of them are extremely poor.
Gaibandha Diabetic Association, a non profit organization registered with social welfare department of the Govt. of Bangladesh, started a medical clinic in 2005 for treating diabetes patient. The clinic, however, lacked necessary equipments to provide treatment and badly needed Auto analyzer and UltraSonogram machines.
SpaandanB Austin partnered with Rotary club of Austin Silicon Hills-USA and Rotary International to purchase an Auto Analyzer (US $5000) and an Ultrasonogram (US $11595) for Gaibandha Diabetic Association clinic. These equipments are being used since April 2010. The clinic provides service to 1200 to 1300 patients every month.
