Throughout the years, SpaandanB has always arranged at least one charity event every year in the San Francisco Bay Area. 2020 has been a year like no other and forced us to rethink how to arrange the charity event. The result was the first ever SpaandanB Virtual Event that was broadcasted live on SpaandanB YouTube channel and SpaandanB Facebook live on Nov 21st.
The event allowed us to connect with our donors and well-wishers across the globe, with people following the live event from the U.S., Bangladesh, Canada, and France. The event was adorned with untold stories of ordinary people showing extraordinary courage, a star-studded line-up of educators, thought-leaders, entertainment personalities, and a live performance by glorious rock band Chirkutt.
The event started with a welcome message from SpaandanB president Dr. Zafar Ullah. SpaandanB projects cover Education, Health, Economic hardship, and Humanitarian causes. We currently support 20 projects in various parts of Bangladesh. This event’s focus was on SpaandanB Schools that provide holistic education for underserved children and on Traumalink Emergency survival aid for road-accident victims.
As event progressed, the audience was deeply connected to Dr. Zafar Iqbal’s words of hope, touched by the heart-warming recitation of Sharmin and Shimul Mustapha’s poems, delighted by Tisha’s candid presence, and mesmerized by the tune of Kana machi, Duniya and many other songs by Chirkutt. Comments like “Hats off to SpaandanB”, “SpaandanB is the beacon of those who are underprivileged in our country . . .”, “A nostalgic morning”, and many others showed how engaged and enthusiastic the audience was.
The audience did not stop just at their words; they showed their outpouring of love and support for SpaandanB and our projects by donating generously – a total of $94K! It was a little shy of our target of $100K for the year-end fundraiser, but there is still a month to go in the year, and we are certain that our donors will help us not just reach, but surpass that target. THANK YOU DONORS from the bottom of our hearts!
